Breda has an empathy, an understanding and a passion for helping clients to see clearly what is going on in their lives or careers, to identify or re-connect with what they actually want and don’t want, and to take the steps to make this new vision a reality.
Through Life Coaching, she works with clients who have a desire to change an aspect of their lives for the better and are ready to take the steps to do so. Coaching has a present – future focus, looking at where the client is now and where they want to get to. Clients often need help in clarifying what it is that’s underlying their basic frustration, dissatisfaction or feeling of being ‘stuck’. They need someone to facilitate their thinking when exploring the reality of their current situation, identifying and honing in on opportunities for change, and mapping the way forward step by step.
Breda’s Coaching practice in terms of the Workplace is quite simply anything related to the Client’s working life that impacts on them and their life in general. It is not just about work / life balance which has become a major pressure point for many people. It can also be about workplace relationships and dynamics at play which are causing stress or distress, where often the client needs help in standing back and clarifying or reframing what is happening, looking at what is within their circle of control, and eliminating the feelings of helplessness or anger which often exist and can lead to bigger problems personally and professionally if not addressed. It can also be about the urge to stand back and look at what it is you want out of life in general, how your work fits with this image or vision, what your values and goals are, and planning positively for the future to get more of what you want out of life … and less of what you don’t.
In terms of Career Coaching, whether the client is a school leaver exploring college options or a 50 year old looking to change career direction, Breda’s passion lies in helping people identify their unique skills, strengths, passions and values and exploring how these can fit together to give the client the career and life they want. She will use various tools to help the client gain this clarity, and guide them as they explore the options to reach this goal and define and refine steps to make it a reality.
Breda has worked for over 20 years in the local development and social inclusion sector, working at the front-line with unemployed people, as a Programme Manager and Team Leader supporting staff, and with a wide range of community, voluntary and statutory agencies in developing services and supports to meet the needs of clients. Alongside this work however, Breda also attributes her passion for coaching to her own life experience and personal journey, particularly as she navigated through a tragedy that impacted greatly on her and her family in terms of grief and trauma, and the inevitable growth and learning that comes with this.
