Dominic came to mindfulness almost fourteen years ago in response to a painful personal crisis at that time. He has been practicing mindfulness meditation ever since and finds it a constant support in negotiating all the ups and downs that life offers us. He continues to attend professional mindfulness trainings and retreats, receives ongoing professional supervision and adheres to the Good Practice Guidelines set out by the UK and Irish Networks of Mindfulness Teachers.
Dominic has been a spiritual seeker all his life. He has a long-standing interest in complementary medicine. This has been spurred on by his understanding that suffering and illness (his own and others), when viewed in a broader more holistic context, potentially has rich meaning and much to teach us. His experience of living in a wide variety of cultures has taught him the importance of being flexible in thinking and appreciative of different perspectives and lifestyles.
Dominic has a strong interest in the arts and has had poetry, plays and short stories published or performed, including on RTE Radio 1 and RTE Lyric FM. He has also been involved in amateur drama and choirs as an actor and singer. His engagement with the arts, informs his ongoing design of workshops and courses.
Dominic teaches MBSR courses to the general public and organises mindfulness workshops in Dublin and the Midlands. In addition, he offers introductory courses in mindfulness on request to community groups, businesses and public sector organisations.
Dominic has worked in venues such as The Sanctuary, The Mindfulness Centre (both in Dublin), Teach Bhride, in Tullow, Co. Carlow and the Dancing Soul – Athlone Therapy Centre and further afield at UCC and the Dominican Retreat Centre in Cork as well as Limerick, Kildare and Dublin West Education Centres. He has been asked to provide mindfulness training for companies such as Intel, Glanbia, the EPA, Silver Cloud Health, Jet.com in addition to working with HSE staff in both Naas and Athlone as well as Meath Local Sports Partnership. Dominic also works regularly in bringing mindfulness to students, teachers and administrators at both primary and secondary level.
