My name is Donna Gorman. I’m a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I am based in Athlone and Tullamore. I’ve been working in the Dancing Soul for 3 years now, which is very enjoyable. I’m a pre-accredited member of the IACP, and I did my training with PCI College in Athlone, who are affiliated with Middlesex University in London. I volunteer as a counsellor with SOSAD in Tullamore, this organization helps people who have suicidal tendencies and many other issues. I also have a private room in Tullamore.
As a counsellor, I will be present for you the client in an understanding and supportive way. I want my client to feel that they are an individual and a unique person in every way. I will be with you through all the processes you will go through in the counselling room, showing empathy, being non-judgemental and making sure you feel safe and heard.
Through our work together, the objective is for you to gain insight into what is going on for you now, how you got to this stage and how to get to the other side of it, and then for you to use these new insights in the future for whenever anything else comes up in your life. This where you as a person finds yourself and gains a deeper understanding of yourself but only doing so at your own pace. As I work from a place where I believe counselling is client led, we only go where and when the client feels it is safe to do so.
I trained as a Humanistic therapist,” this therapy is used to help the client develop a stronger and healthier sense of self also called self-actualization”, Abraham Maslow (1908-1970). I also use Integrative therapies within the therapeutic session, this approach is the integration of elements from different schools of psychotherapy in the treatment of clients, as I believe all clients are different and therefore need to be treated as an individual person. I am a counsellor who works with the core conditions of Empathy, Unconditional Positive Regard and Congruence.
If you need someone to listen to you, without judgement and someone who cares about you, to help you overcome what is going on for you at present, I am here waiting to help you achieve that goal.
